Background

Mutt is not human... entirely. Mutt was a per-standard woodlands wolf taken in by a witches guild courtesy of a local trapper. As a wolf, he was tested upon by various spellcasters both practicing and skilled.

Eventually, he was stepped up to "Familiar" and given a human complexion courtesy of a convoluted spell at the hands of the Master Witch. Almost perfect minus a few canine traits remaining... like his furred ears and his tail.

He would be trained to speak common for communications sake, and be assigned to witches traveling abroad as a sort of guard, noting his features would easily be hidden under a cloak and hood typical of a traveler of the age. He remained a very bubbly “puppy dog” like personality which many witches found a bit insufferable, and he was never selected for these tasks. Instead he’d work around the guild’s manor doing whatever he was told, following orders to an exact... usually those being the jobs no one else wished to do.

Finally, his ticket came up for a mission outside the guild manor. To his knowledge, he’d finally proven himself worthy, how great! Reality was, however, the guild was happy to be rid of him… and thus assigned him to a notably troublesome witch who was departing for western lands to further their practice.. and complete some more personal goals along the way.

And so they depart, and Mutt goes on to live many incredible adventures.... right?~
